The No.8 typhoon signal, which was issued at 5:30 a.m. today, will remain hoisted this afternoon, the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) says.
According to a statement by the observatory, Typhoon Talim was located about 220 km southwest of Macau at 1 p.m., moving towards the western coast of Guangdong province.
The bureau cancelled the storm surge warning at 1 p.m. Minor flooding hit the Inner Harbour area earlier today. No major incidents or injuries have been reported. Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has chaired a meeting of the Civil Protection Operations Centre.
Public bus and light rail transit (LRT) services remain suspended as long as the No.8 signal is up. However, taxi services continue in operation. As is customary, government offices and banks as well as most private offices and shops are closed, but casinos stay open. Many flights at the local airport have been suspended for the day. Public bus services across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) have been suspended since last night.
