A grand inauguration was held for the Macao Polytechnic University’s (MPU) “One Country, Two Systems” Study Base on Saturday, the public tertiary education institution said in a statement.
The Study Base aims to “cultivate patriotism in youth on all fronts, develop national education and tourism in a synergistic manner, and play the role of linking cross-disciplinary fields in an interlocking mechanism”, according to the statement.
The statement noted that the ceremony, which was officiated by a number of officials, was attended by 100 guests and participants from 20 mainland universities and local community groups.
MPU Rector Im Sio Kei said in the statement that the Study Base, which has the theme of national education, will launch study programmes aimed at young students and disseminate the experience of the successful implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” in Macau through activities such as seminars, workshops, field visits, and inspections.
Through these events, Prof. Im noted that the Study Base aims to give students from all over the nation “a deeper understanding of the close relationship between Macau and the motherland, and the rich connotation of ‘One Country, Two Systems”’.
Meanwhile, the 2023 “One Country, Two Systems” Study Camp’s closing ceremony was held concurrently, where officiating guests gave participating teachers and students certificates, the statement said.
The statement added that the camp, which the participants “spoke highly of”, included themed academic lectures, workshops, and cultural field visits.
The statement said that the keynote lectures focused on topics such as social development, the Basic Law, and youth development in Macau, “analysing the positioning and strategies of Macau’s socio-economic development from different perspectives”, and discussed the “One Country, Two Systems” successful implementation with the help of concrete examples.
