The University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Portuguese of its Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) recently held an on-campus opening ceremony for its 37th Portuguese Language Summer Course, resuming face-to-face teaching and garnered 280 students from Macau, the mainland and South Korea, according to a UM statement yesterday.
The statement did not say when exactly the opening ceremony was held.
The statement noted that the course aims to provide participants with “an in-depth knowledge of the Portuguese language, enhancing their awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, and making them realise” the language’s importance.
The statement added that UM hopes that the three-week course will enable its participants to learn the language under the guidance of language teachers and cultural animators and that they will form “close links and friendships”.
The statement said that the course also covers Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries’ (PSCs) historical, social, economic and political dimensions, as well as intermediate and advanced level courses on history, contemporary Portugal, translation, and interpretation.
Furthermore, the summer course organises a series of cultural activities conducted in Portuguese such as workshops on the Afro-Brazilian martial art capoeira, Portuguese folk dance, oenology and poetry, according to the statement. There will also be a concert by a band from Casa de Portugal em Macau (CPM).
