Over 30 sets of painted tiles are on display at “Redrawing in Azulejos*, Solo Exhibition by Adalberto Tenreiro | Celebration of Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities” at Albergue SCM’s Gallery A2 until next Friday.
Portugal’s National Day is celebrated annually on June 10.
Organised by the CAC - Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau, the exhibition showcases Tenreiro’s painted tiles alongside their respective sketches and paintings, which enables exhibition-goers to “explore the process of artistic expansion”, a recent CAC statement noted.
The subjects include buildings in Macau and different parts of the world, as well as well as objects from Tenreiro’s daily life.
Born in São Tomé and Príncipe in 1955, Tenreiro has participated in in many individual and group exhibitions, with works having been displayed in Macau, Lisbon and Spain, among others. The statement said that he graduated from the Technical University of Lisbon in Portugal with a degree in architecture in 1982 and moved to Macau in 1983.
The statement added that Tenreiro currently practises in his office at ATeliers ARchiTecture.

*Azulejos are a form of Spanish and Portuguese painted tin-glazed ceramic tilework, Wikipedia notes, and are found in the interior and exterior of churches, palaces, houses and nowadays also in restaurants and subway stations, among others.
