The Judiciary Police’s (PJ) anti-fraud coordination centre discovered yesterday that a fraudster had created a fake social media page for a popular supermarket in Macau, which falsely claims that “exclusive gifts” will be sent to the subscribers, asking public to log on to an unknown link to register an account and enter personal and credit card details.

After the PJ consulted with the supermarket concerned, the page was found to be counterfeit.

The police urged members of the public to check the “offers” with the relevant supermarkets through official channels, and not to click on unknown links and enter bank account details, transaction passwords or credit card details to prevent bank account or credit card theft. If you suspect fraud, you should call the PJ’s 24-hour hotline 993 or fraud prevention hotline 8800 7777 for assistance.
