A Korean man has been arrested for theft, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect, surnamed Park, is 34 years old and holds a South Korean passport. He claimed to be a businessman.

According to Cheong, a woman in her twenties was working in a shopping mall in Nape on Thursday afternoon when she noticed that her white handbag, which was placed next to her, had disappeared. She reported the incident to the police and said that the handbag contained cash and a pair of earbuds with a total value of 5,200 patacas.

After checking the surveillance footage at the scene, the police identified the suspect as Park and arrested him in a mall in Taipa later that day. Under questioning, Park admitted to stealing the handbag out of greed, and claimed that he had already thrown away the earbuds as they could not pair with his phone, and that he had spent most of the ill-gotten money.

Park has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Cheong.
