The local observatory hoisted the No.1 standby signal at 10 p.m. yesterday after Super Typhoon “Doksuri” over the Luzon Strait came within 800 km of Macau.

At 10 p.m. yesterday, Doksuri was located about 770 km east-southeast of the city.

The super typhoon, according to the weather station, was forecast to move across the northeastern part of the South China Sea, “generally” moving towards the area between Fujian province and the eastern coast of Guangdong province.

The probability of issuing the No.3 tropical cyclone signal early tomorrow morning was “relatively low to medium”, the observatory noted.

On its website, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) underlined that it was closely monitoring the track of Doksuri, urging the public to pay attention to the bureau’s latest weather information.

As Doksuri was expected to make landfall at a distance of over 400 km to the east of Macau and the astronomical tide was not at its high phase in the coming days, the bureau said that there’s a “relatively low” probability of having to issue its “Blue” Storm Surge warning.

Under the impact brought by the super typhoon’s outer subsiding air to Macau, the observatory predicted the weather today to be “extremely” hot, due to which thunderstorms and strong gusts may occur this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s observatory hoisted the No.1 signal at 8:40 p.m. yesterday, indicating that Doksuri will maintain a distance over 500 km from Hong Kong between last night and this morning.

The neighbouring observatory said on its website last night that its latest tropical cyclone warning signal will be assessed depending on the distance between Doksuri and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region.
