A man and two women from the mainland have been arrested for alleged involvement in a drug trafficking case, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a special press conference yesterday.

The 42-year-old male suspect surnamed Huang. The other suspects are a 37-years-old woman who had been overstaying in Macau since 2020 and engaged in prostitution, as well as a 42-year-old woman who overstayed in Macau for two months. The two female suspects are sisters surnamed Zheng.

Leng noted that the police had been tipped off recently that Huang was planning to smuggle drugs from the mainland to Macau. On Saturday afternoon, Huang entered Macau through the Barrier Gate checkpoint and checked into a hotel in the northern district. Later, Huang met the younger Zheng near the hotel and both were arrested by police officers, who found small packs of methamphetamine (aka ice) on Zheng.

According to Leng, the police discovered packs of methamphetamine weighing a total of 21.72 grammes, one tablet of yaba and drug paraphernalia in Huang’s hotel room. Huang told the police that the drugs and tools had been smuggled to Macau from the mainland, while Zheng said that she bought the pack of methamphetamine from Huang for 2,000 patacas.

Zheng added that she had also had provided at least five prostitution services where she took drugs with her customers, charging a fee of HK$12,500 per deal. According to Leng, when police officers went to Zheng’s flat later, her older sister, who was living with her, was being uncooperative and intended to hinder police investigation. Police officers seized 23.62 grams of methamphetamine and two tablets of yaba with a total street value of around 78,540 patacas along with drug paraphernalia in the flat.

Additionally, Leng said that five tenants including a male overstayer from Myanmar and a male mainlander involved in illegal currency deals in Macau were found in the younger Zheng’s flat. The police have meanwhile reported the case of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) for the provision of illegal accommodation.

The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday. Huang faces a drug trafficking charge, while the sisters face charges of drug abuse and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia, Leng said.
