The Health Bureau (SSM) will open 20 new free stations for measuring one’s blood pressure and weight from today, bringing the total number of measuring stations across Macau from 33 to 53.
The bureau, according to an SSM statement on Friday, launched the “My Health Depends on Me” programme in 2015, cooperating with a number of associations in setting up a wide range of self-measurement stations to check one’s blood pressure and weight in local neighbourhoods, aiming to encourage residents to regularly measure their blood pressure and weight, in order to detect anomalies and take precautions as soon as possible.
The statement noted that after measuring one’s blood pressure and weight at one of the stations, the result will be sent and stored in the individual health information system of the bureau through the scanning of the measuring device with the barcode on the residents’ SSM user card or an appointment slip.
The statement added that in conjunction with the development of smart medicine, after the measurements either at a station or at home, residents can consult the results stored during the past few years through “My Health” in their “Macao One Account”, or via their account on the bureau’s Health Data Platform.
More information about the “My Health Depends on Me” Programme, such as the locations of self-measurement stations, can be found on its website at https://www.ssm.gov.mo/apps1/selfhealth/ch.aspx#clg9527.
Considering that hypertension and overweight are common risk factors for chronic non-transmissible diseases such as strokes and coronary heart disease, which are closely related to unhealthy lifestyle habits, the bureau urged residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent non-communicable chronic diseases, including a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction, maintenance of an ideal weight, emotional well-being and sufficient sleep, among others.
