The exterior of a residential flat in Pátio da Bátega on Rua da Palha was ablaze yesterday, Judiciary Police spokesman Chan Wun Man said in a statement yesterday.

The statement said the Fire Services Bureau (CB) received a report about the blaze at 12:36 p.m. yesterday, which had already been put out when the firemen arrived at the scene.

According to the statement, the owner of the flat found the plate containing the flat number and a flower decoration outside the flat had caught fire and spread to the “fai chun” (“揮春”, a traditional doorway decoration) at 2:30 a.m., soon after which the owner immediately put out the fire with water but did not call the fire services for help until yesterday afternoon.

As there was no electric or inflammable material near the location of the fire, the firemen considered the cause of the fire suspicious and requested the Judiciary Police (PJ) investigate the case, the statement said.

According to the statement, no one was injured or required hospitalisation in the suspected arson.

The Judiciary Police have classified the case as suspected arson.
