A local driver crashed into seven concrete barriers, a stone wall and four sprinklers and left the scene without reporting the incident to the police on Friday, Public Security Police (PSP) Lam Keong said at a regular press yesterday.

Lam said that the male suspect surnamed Lai is in his fifties. He told the police that he’s jobless.

Leong said that on Friday morning the PSP received a report that a car accident had occurred in Avenida da Amizade. The police who arrived at the scene found seven concrete barriers, a stone wall and four sprinklers damaged, as well as a damaged vehicle without a driver.

The police later found a witness nearby who said that he had helped the driver, Lai, get out of the car, after which the latter walked towards Rua dos Pescadores. Lai was soon intercepted at the junction of Rua dos Pescadores and Avenida da Amizade.

Lai was given a breathalyser which showed that his alcohol concentration was 2.04 grammes per litre of blood. He also sustained injuries to his eyes.

Lai admitted drinking during the previous night and said that the car he drove was borrowed from a friend.

Lai has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing drunk driving, dangerous driving and evading responsibility charges.
