The 2023 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) is slated to take place from August 17-20 at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo and features seven zones, according to a MIECF statement yesterday.

Themed “Building an Ecological Civilisation Through Innovative Initiatives” and entering its 15th year, 2023MIECF’s seven zones across its 10,000 square metre exhibition area comprise the “Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Pavilion”, “Mainland China Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, “International Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, “Macao Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, “Premium Exhibitor Zone”, “Green Living Zone”, and “Green and Low-Carbon Project Zone”.

The zones cover areas such as water resources, energy-saving and eco-friendly technologies, and waste management, and will provide environmental protection information to exhibitors and participants.

The statement added that enterprises from various counties and regions will be welcome to exhibit in Macau, initially covering online and offline exhibitors and buyers from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America.

The statement said that the places include three European countries that a Macau government delegation visited in April, as well as three Southeast Asian countries visited by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin representatives.

The statement did not identify the six countries.

Following the economic and trade promotion conferences hosted by the organisations, the statement noted that the enterprises from the countries will participate in the event based on recommendations from their local trade associations and business organisations.

Moreover, the statement said that this year’s exhibition focuses on four major industries, cultivating “industry + MICE” to achieve the national “dual carbon” goals and complying with the government’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification* strategy.

The event is committed to “enhancing the degree of internationalisation of visitors and traders, expanding the global environmental protection market, and establishing an international exchange and cooperation platform that supports the environmental protection industry, [promotes] technology transfer and encourages sustainable development for the environmental protection sector”, according to the statement.

*The government’s 1+4 model aims to consolidate the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four new key industries, namely 1) Big Health, 2) modern finance, 3) high-tech, and 4) conventions and exhibitions as well as culture and sport.
