A 38-year-old Filipino man has been arrested for vandalising a radio taxi and a bus as well as assaulting a bus driver and a police officer in a drunken rampage on Saturday morning in Fai Chi Kei, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference at the Zape branch of the Macau Public Security Forces Academy yesterday.
According to Lam, the suspect, surname Navarro, is jobless.
Around 6:40 a.m., an intoxicated Navarro repeatedly banged on the door of a bus at a bus stop in Rua de Fai Chi Kei “for no apparent reason”. When the bus driver tried to stop him, Navarro hit the bus driver in the right eye with his flip flop. The bus driver, trying to defend himself, managed to find a broom on the street. Navarro then grabbed a dustpan, and the two engaged in a standoff, Lam reported.
Soon after, Navarro broke the wing mirror of another bus, worth 1,200 patacas, with the dustpan. He then charged straight at a radio taxi parked nearby, and broke the radio taxi’s auxiliary mirror, worth 3,000 patacas, with his bare hands. Afterwards, Navarro got into the radio taxi’s front row of seats. When the police officer urged him to exit the vehicle, he punched the officer in the right eye. The officer was taken for medical treatment.
Lam did not elaborate on where the officer was taken for treatment.
When Navarro “woke up”, he told the police that he remembered nothing of what had happened before.
Navarro was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing aggravated assault and vandalism charges.
