Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) President Vincent U U Sang announced yesterday that this year’s Macao International Environmental Cooperation Forum & Exhibition (2023MIECF) will kick off tomorrow at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo, featuring nearly 500 booths in seven exhibition areas, namely, “Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Pavilions”, “Mainland China Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, “International Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, “Macao Environmental Protection Industries Exhibition Area”, “Premium Exhibitor Zone”, “Green Living Zone”, and “Green and Low-Carbon Project Zone”.

The annual eco-fair, themed “Building an Ecological Civilisation Through Innovative Initiatives”, will be held from tomorrow through Sunday, according to U, who said: “2023MIECF will be extended from the previous three days to four days, aiming to create more opportunities for participants and buyers at home and from abroad to meet and discuss, to exchange information and to reach cooperation.”

U made the remarks in a speech during yesterday’s press conference about the upcoming fair at the site.

U noted that the fair-cum-forum covers an exhibition area of more than 10,000 square metres, with a year-on-year increase of 50 percent to over 400 offline exhibitors from all over the world participating this year, among which the number of overseas exhibitors has nearly doubled compared with last year to 40, indicating a recovery rate of 73 percent of the number before the three-year COVID-19 pandemic.

During the press conference, U told the media about five highlights of this year’s fair, such as when a mainland Chinese green-finance expert – Eco-Finance Research Centre of Renmin University of China Deputy Director Prof. Lan Hong – will deliver a keynote speech during the opening ceremony tomorrow.

According to U, the expo will hold a number of concurrent events in line with the government’s “1+4” development strategy, such as forums, seminars and award ceremonies. Among them, he added, three forums organised by the environmental industry on its own initiative will be held in Macau and Hengqin respectively based on a “multi-venue event” pattern, so as to enhance the mutual benefit of MICE resources and international tourist sources between the two places, aiming to generate synergistic effects.

The “1+4” development strategy aims for appropriate economic diversification by promoting four main industries – big health, modern finance, high-tech, and conventions and exhibitions, including culture and sport.

Attending yesterday’s press conference, Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) Director Raymond Tam Vai Man said in a speech he believed that the fair-cum-forum will further promote environmental cooperation and exchanges between the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the rest of the world.
