Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng received Shen Beili, the China Soong Ching Lin Foundation’s Communist Party of China (CPC) secretary and vice-president, yesterday at Government Headquarters.

According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau, Ho and Shen exchanged views on various topics such as charitable and welfare activities, youth affairs and future cooperation between the two sides.

Shen is paying a working visit to Macau where she attended yesterday’s opening of an exhibition on the life of Soong Ching Ling at the Forum Macao complex. The exhibition is hosted by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation.

Ho was quoted by the statement as saying that Dr Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling have profound historical links with Macau.

Dr Sun (1866-1925), known as the “Forerunner of the Revolution”, married Soong Ching Ling (1893-1981) in 1915. During her final illness in May 1981, Soong Ching Ling was given the special title of “Honorary President of the People’s Republic of China”.

According to the GCS statement, Shen thanked the local government for “strongly supporting” the activities of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation such as the current exhibition in Macau as well as its activities in general.

Shen, a former Foreign Ministry commissioner in Macau, pointed out that the local government began its successful cooperation with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation back in 2012. She said that the foundation was determined to further strengthen its youth-focused activities in Hong Kong and Macau, aiming to reinforce young people’s knowledge and understanding of Chinese history and culture.
