A local man was arrested for fleeing the scene of a car accident in which he was involved, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect in his forties is surnamed Siu. He told the police he’s a businessman.
According to Lei, Siu’s vehicle crashed into another car and damaged its side mirror in Rua do Regedor last Sunday. After reporting the incident to the police, Siu left the scene and went to eat in a nearby restaurant.
Police arrived at the scene and found Siu at the restaurant. Siu then insisted on leaving the area despite multiple warnings from the officers that he could only leave after answering some questions. Siu ignored the warnings and left on foot as the police were processing the evidence of the accident. Instead, he asked his father to go to the scene and handle the details.
Later that afternoon, the police found Siu with the help of his father and arrested him.
Siu has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge evading responsibility, according to Lei.
