“The Statistics of Fortune – Main Exhibition of Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023” is being held at the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) in Nape, boasting 118 contemporary pieces by 42 artists.
Held on MAM’s first, second and third floors, the artists exhibiting their work are from Cambodia, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and the United States, as well as mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, according to a recent statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC),
Themed “The Statistics of Fortune”, the works on display are curated by Qiu Zhijie and include paintings, printmaking, photography, mixed media, sculptures, installations, videos and artificial intelligence (AI) art. “The clash of ancient and modern ideas and the fusion of Chinese and Western imageries will certainly trigger infinite imagination and profound inspiration”, according to the statement.
The statement noted that Art Macao and the exhibition’s theme reflect “on the expectations and concerns caused by the development of science and technology and explore the clashes and interactions between science and religion”.
The statement said that the exhibition runs through October 29. The museum is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with no admission after 6:30 p.m.
