Veteran Chinese-language journalist Ng Sio Ngai passed away at the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre on Friday after losing her years-long battle against an extremely rare type of cancer, her colleagues have told The Macau Post Daily.

Ng, who started her journalistic career at the Chinese-language Si Man Pou daily as a newsroom assistant in the mid-1980s, was aged 62.  She later worked as a reporter for Tai Chung Pou daily before moving on to Macau’s number-two Chinese-language daily, Jornal “Va Kio” where she became one of Macau’s best-known and most-respected journalists and commentators.

Ng, born in Zhongshan city, some 40 kilometres north of Macau in November 1960, participated in the launch of the online Chinese-language news media outlet known in English as All About Macau (“Lon Chon” [論盡] – which can be loosely translated as “discuss as much as possible”) in 2012. All About Macau publishes a print version once a month.

Ng covered intensively the drafting process of the Macau Basic Law and transition towards Macau’s return to Chinese administration in the 1990s.

A memorial service will be held at Kiang Wu Funeral Parlour on September 6.
