This year’s Physical Fitness Challenge-cum-Sports and Fitness Experience Day will be held at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on September 17, Sports Bureau (ID) Sports Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai said in a press conference yesterday at its headquarters in Zape.

The challenge is now open for registration, Chao announced during the press conference, adding that residents aged between 13 and 55 can apply for the challenge online from now until September 14, which also can also be participated by professional athletes.

According to the bureau, the challenge consists of an individual fitness challenge and a mixed fitness challenge, with the individual fitness challenge consisting of a junior and an open competition, which can be participated in by residents born between 2008-2010 and 1968-2007, while the mixed fitness challenge consists of an individual and a team competition.

The bureau said that the team competition must consist of a team of three with at least one female player, and for the first time, this year’s challenge will set up a “Fitness King Award”, which the athletes who participate in both the individual fitness challenge (all events) and the mixed fitness challenge (individual competition) will be ranked according to their total scores to compete for this award.

To help the local sports industry, a new sporting goods exhibition area will be added this year to promote local sports brands, Chao added.

According to the bureau, there are fitness experience areas and sports medicine consultation areas at the event site, and the public can experience kickboxing, yoga, Aikido and other sports, where officials from the bureau will be present to explain sports information to the public, providing preliminary health assessment tests and suggestions on appropriate exercise.

On the sidelines of yesterday’s event, ID President Pun Weng Kun reminded the media that the 70th Macau Grand Prix will be held in November, adding that he had received ticket requests from spectators around the world, including “the wish to reserve seats”. Pun underlined that in accordance with the principle of fairness, the ticketing prices will be announced shortly.

Pun also described the preparation for the 70th Macau Grand Prix as “smooth”, adding that the work of building barriers and spectator stands will be carried out in October as scheduled. He also said that not only many overseas businesses but also local businesses hope to promote their brands through this year’s Macau Grand Prix by setting up booths around the venue.

“This tells us that this year’s Macau Grand Prix – the first full one after the previous three pandemic years – is attracting attention from all over the world,” Pun said.
