Most of the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s (IC) cultural facilities such as heritage sites and public libraries reopened yesterday after the necessary inspection and cleaning works were carried out upon the passage of Super Typhoon “Saola”, according to a weekend statement by the bureau.
The statement noted that the Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.1 will reopen today after the preparation for an exhibition is completed, while the “Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business”, which is closed on the first Monday of each month, will reopen tomorrow.
Lai Chi Vun Shipyard in Coloane, meanwhile, will be temporarily closed until further notice for inspection, cleaning and site decorations, according to the statement.
Moreover, the statement said, IC staff were sent out on Saturday to inspect a number of heritage buildings in the city and contact all those people responsible for temples and churches to find out the post-typhoon situation of heritage buildings, noting that most were “generally in good condition” at the time of inspection.
The statement added that only some buildings were slightly damaged due to the inclement weather brought about by the typhoon such as some signs of roof damage and fallen tree branches.
