A local male worker died after falling from a work platform in a hotel in Cotai on Wednesday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement identified the worker as a 63-year-old local man, who was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment where he died on Thursday.
The accident occurred at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the statement said, adding that he was working in a hotel in Cotai, when another construction worker suddenly heard a loud noise and found the man lying on his back on the floor, the statement said.
The statement said he sustained head injuries and minor abrasions on his back.
Meanwhile, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said it was highly concerned about the fatal accident and extended its condolences to the bereaved family, according to a statement by the bureau on Friday.
The bureau sent an official to the site to investigate, according to the DSAL statement.
The statement said in a separate statement on Friday that it has urged engineering companies to ensure that their workers always comply with safety guidelines.
The statement said that DSAL officials will assist the victim’s family members to file a work accident claim.
Building contractors must provide all those working at a height with a work platform and safety harnesses, and ensure that the workers always use the tools in line with the industry’s guidelines, the statement said.
In the statement, the bureau also urged workers to always correctly use work platforms and safety harnesses.
