The Sports Committee of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (MFTU or FAOM – aka Gung Luen in Cantonese) will hold a series of commemorative activities at its Workers Stadium in the Barrier Gate area from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in celebration of the World Health Qigong Day, an annual event commemorated on the second Saturday in September.
According to a press conference yesterday at Restaurante Beautiful World on Avenida Artur de Tamagnini Barbosa, with the theme of “Creating Healthy Habits-Sending Love”, the one-hour-long commemorative activities, including a seminar and group demonstrations of Qigong, will be held on the same day with members of various associations from more than 100 regions and countries around the world.
The press conference noted that under the coordination of the International Health Qigong Federation (IHQF), this year’s event will be simultaneously broadcast online on multiple platforms, so as to publicise to the world “the excellent Chinese nation’s traditional sport.”
Qigong (“life-energy cultivation”), which was developed in China about 2,000 years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), involves using exercises to optimise energy within the body, mind, and spirit, with the goal of improving and maintaining health and well-being, according to the US National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health and Wikipedia.
