Several int’l music-fest shows ‘highly sought after’: IC

Several programmes for the 35th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), which had its first day of ticket sales on Sunday, are “highly sought after” while nearly 40,000 “music aficionados” registered for the “Joe Hisaishi* 360” series, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.

Opera in Two Acts by Gioachino Rossini The Barber of Seville and Song of the Ch’in are among the sought-after programmes in the festival, which is this year themed “Melodic Reconnections” and features 16 programmes and 14 outreach activities, the statement noted.

The statement said that tickets for the “Joe Hisaishi 360” series are for sale through registration and a lucky draw, with seating for programmes randomly allocated by computer ballot. Those interested can register on www.macauticket.com/JoeHisaishi360 until 8 p.m. today. Each person can register up to two tickets per programme.

If the tickets are still available after the ticketing periods for successful first-round applicants and applicants on the waiting list, the statement underlined, the remaining tickets can be bought through Macau Ticketing Network outlets, telephone and online booking from 10 a.m. on October 7, with various discounts available.

Meanwhile, the ongoing “Mobile Music Salon” has been launched to strengthen the publicity of the festival and increase community interactions. The next session for the activity is slated to take place this weekend from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Leisure Area at Lok Yeung Fa Yuen Building in Fai Chi Kei. Festival tickets are also available at the activity, the statement noted.

*Mamoru Fujisawa, born on December 6, 1950, known professionally as Joe Hisaishi, is a Japanese composer, musical director, conductor and pianist, known for over 100 film scores and solo albums dating back to 1981. Hisaishi’s music has been known to explore and incorporate different genres, including minimalist, experimental electronic, Western classical, and Japanese classical.
