In order to cultivate a sense of patriotism, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and Guangdong Museum jointly have launched an exhibition under the theme of “Love for the Motherland: Lingnan and Macau Culture” at the educational Patriotic Base for Youth at the Macau Handover Gifts Museum in Nape, according to a DSEDJ statement yesterday.
The statement did not say when the opening ceremony was held.
The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U, DSEDJ Director Kong Chi Meng and other government officials, the statement said.
During the opening ceremony, Kong said that the concept of “Loving the country and loving Macau” is the core value of Macau’s civil society and an important foundation for the steady and long-term implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, according to the statement.
Kong said the exhibition aims to present the heritage of both Chinese culture in general and Lingnan (southern Chinese) culture in particular in Macau to young students, enhancing their cultural confidence, and introducing the inseparable history of Macau and the whole nation to young students, the statement said.
Kong said his bureau will continue to work with various government departments, education units, youth organisations and people from all walks of life in the mainland and Macau to jointly promote the education of patriotism and love for Macau, and make efforts for the growth and development of young students in Macau, the statement said.
Launched in 2020, the educational Patriotic Base for Youth is a learning base combining extracurricular and regular education for young students in Macau, and a research base for young students from all over the world to understand the development of the nation and Macau in a multi-dimensional way, according to the statement.
Apart from being open to the public, the exhibition is also open for group bookings and guided tours. For enquiries, members of the public can contact the base on 2893 0785 during office hours.
The statement did not specify the exhibition’s daily opening hours or an end date for the exhibition.
According to macaomagazine.net, the term Lingnan refers to a large region of the nation south of the Nanling Mountains, mainly covering Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, but also including the special administrative regions of Macau and Hong Kong.
Lingnan culture is expressed in architecture, opera, pottery, paintings, calligraphy, cuisine, and many other artistic forms.
