The Health Bureau (SSM) is urging those with a high risk of suffering from a serious COVID-19 condition who have received a BioNTech mRNA bivalent jab to receive another one.
The new measure, which was announced in an SSM statement on Friday last week, started on Monday.
According to the statement, those with a high risk of suffering from a serious COVID-19 condition include all those aged 60 or over, those aged 12 or over with chronic diseases or weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and frontline health workers.
The statement also reaffirmed that those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 will normally have their antibody levels gradually decline as time passes, particularly six months afterwards.
The statement noted that the BioNTech mRNA bivalent vaccine available in Macau is also effective against the Omicron XBB subvariants, including EG.5, a descendent lineage of one of the Omicron XBB subvariants.
The statement said that those with a high risk of suffering from a serious COVID-19 condition who received a BioNTech mRNA bivalent jab at least six months ago “can” now receive an extra one.
