The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) participated in the “ASTINDO Travel Fair” in Jakarta in Indonesia last week to promote Macau’s diverse offer of “tourism+” experiences, so as to attract more Indonesian travellers to Macau as well as to expand international visitor markets for local tourism and to give a further boost to the city’s economic recovery, according to an MGTO statement yesterday.

“ASTINDO Travel Fair’’ was held at the mega shopping mall Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) Avenue in Jakarta from Thursday to Sunday, the statement said.

MGTO partnered with representatives of Macau’s six integrated resorts, travel agencies and Macau International Airport Co. Ltd. in joining the event, setting up booths to promote Macau’s UNESCO World Heritage sites as well as the special administrative region’s events, gastronomy and leisure travel, featuring a tourist information counter, business networking and interactive game sessions, the statement said.

The fair was organised by the Indonesian Travel Agents Association (ASTINDO). The event is one of Indonesia’s largest consumer travel fairs to gather exhibitors from many tourist destinations, airlines and outbound and local tourism operators, the statement said.

MGTO regards Southeast Asia as a travel market with great potential, according to the statement, and Indonesia ranks second among Macau’s foreign visitor markets and fifth among the 10 leading visitor source markets.

With the gradual increase in direct flights between Macau and Southeast Asia, MGTO had recently organised a string of fact-finding visits by travel trade representatives to Macau from different countries and regions.

According to the statement, a delegation of 19 representatives from the Indonesian travel trade was invited to visit Macau in late July for a first-hand experience of Macau’s different tourist attractions and hotel facilities, and some online-offline marketing campaigns will be held to tap the potential of the Indonesian visitor market.

Committed to Macau’s appropriate economic diversification under the government’s “1+4” development strategy, MGTO will keep deepening the integration of “tourism+”, diversifying international markets and promoting Macau tourism products and Macau as a tourist destination through a variety of marketing initiatives, the statement said.
