The construction of the government’s historical archives building in Pac On in Taipa has been completed, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) has announced.

The new building, officially known as Government Historical Archives Building, is located on Plot O4, which is situated near the Multifunctional Government Building on Plot O1, some floors of which are currently used by the Printing Bureau (IO).

The Printing Bureau, which was previously headquartered near the heritage-listed São Lourenço Church, moved to the Multifunctional Government Building in May 2019.

The Public Works Bureau announced in a statement on Monday that the construction of the Government Historical Archives Building, which got off the ground in June 2021, has been completed, adding that the building’s final survey inspection and formal acceptance was completed earlier that day.

According to the DSOP website, the Government Historical Archives Building’s construction cost 330.77 million patacas.

The new building was initially known as Documents Warehouse Building, before the government renamed it Government Historical Archives Building.

The 13-storey building will be primarily used for warehouses storing government archives.

According to the statement, the site where the building is located covers about 4,366 square metres. The building has a gross floor area of about 55,600 square metres.

The statement said that the new building’s ground floor will be used for a loading and unloading area, while its basement floor is a carpark.

The statement pointed out that despite the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction was completed 57 working days ahead of schedule.

In addition to being used by the Printing Bureau for its office spaces, the Multifunctional Government Building, the construction of which was completed in July 2018, is also currently used for government entities’ warehouses, such as the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s (IC) central book stack used for storing book collections for the city’s public libraries.
