Some schools only scratch the surface of the electoral system when teaching pupils about it, which does not give young people the enthusiasm to become involved in politics, according to University of Macau (UM) Associate Professor of the Faculty of Education (FED) Vong Sou Kuan.

Vong made the remarks yesterday on the sidelines of a forum about the Macau Legislative Assembly (AL) and the chief executive election, held by the Macau Civic Power (ECM) at the Portuguese Bookshop.

According to Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) figures, there were 285,999 registered voters at the end of last year, 16,483 of them voters aged between 17 and 24.
