Macau’s annual sports day for senior citizens is taking place on Sunday September 24 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Tap Seac Multisports Pavilion for residents born in or before 1972.

Jointly hosted by the Sports Bureau (ID) and the Macau Elderly Sports Association, the Macau Elderly Sports Day 2023 is aimed at enabling senior citizens to exercise while socialising, to tackle health problems and have a better life quality, Sports Bureau Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai said during yesterday’s press conference at its headquarters.

The event has been held every year since 2005, and this year is the 17th edition.

Chao said during yesterday’s press conference he believes that many senior citizens will sign up to participate this year, and the Sports Bureau encourages the elderly to take an active part in a variety of healthy sports to enrich their leisure life and develop exercise habits to enhance their physical fitness.

During the event, the senior citizens can participate in a number of sporting activities and health examinations. The organisers hoped to enable the elderly to share the fun of sport with their families and the general public through the Sports Day, better publicise the concept of “Sports for All - Let’s Exercise for a Better Health” and encourage the elderly to take an active part in sporting activities to enrich their leisure life and foster exercising habits by enjoying sport, Chao said.
