The external decorative panels on the 15th floor of China Plaza on Avenida da Praia Grande loosened due to ageing, but were quickly reinforced by workers of the building management company and no longer pose a danger to the public, according to a statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) yesterday.
The area of the loosened external wall panel was about 2.5 metres by 1 metre, with the firefighters arriving at the scene at about 10.30 a.m. and a ladder was erected for inspection, the statement said.
A traffic lane near a bus stop was temporarily closed to avoid accidents, the statement said, adding that the repair work was completed in the afternoon after strengthening the structure of the external panels.
No one was hurt in the incident, the statement said.
