Introducing guide dogs to the city would be very helpful for completely blind people to get around outdoors, but was unlikely to be locally feasible for several years, Macau Visually Impaired People’s Rights Promotion Association (MPVIRPA) President Albert Cheong Chi Pong said yesterday.

Cheong made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony at Macau Tower to kick off a series of activities marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Visually impaired himself, Cheong said the feasibility of introducing guide dogs depended largely on the city’s social environment. He said it would take years of promotional activities for a community to understand and accept the existence of guide dogs.
