Two pedestrians from the mainland have been fined for jaywalking, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement yesterday, adding that the two jaywalkers aged between 30 and 40 caused a traffic accident in Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus in Taipa on Tuesday night by running across the road in front of a motorbike rider causing minor injuries to him and his pillion when they fell to the ground after the rider swerved to avoid the duo.

The statement noted that the motorcyclist passed his breathalyser test.

In addition, according to yesterday’s statement, between January and August this year, the Public Security Police fined a total of 1,482 jaywalkers for breaching the city’s road traffic law, among which 91 cases happened in Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus.

In the statement, members of the public are urged to always use pedestrian crossings to ensure the safety of themselves and other road users.

The Public Security Police reaffirmed that they will continue to pay attention to the dangerous behaviour of pedestrians crossing the road illegally.
