A non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland has been arrested for stealing a diamond bracelet she found outside a shop in a Cotai shopping mall, Public Security Police spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference on Monday.

The 44-year-old suspect surnamed Li is a sales assistant at a shop in Cotai.

According to Cheong, a mainland visitor reported to the police last Wednesday that earlier that day she had lost a diamond bracelet worth 120,000 yuan (132,000 patacas) in a Cotai shopping mall.

The police soon identified Li as the person who had picked up the bracelet, and she was arrested on the same day at the mall. Under questioning, she admitted to picking up the bracelet out of greed. The police found the bracelet on her.

Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Cheong.

This undated handout photo provided by the Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday shows the suspect being escorted by police officers to a police station.
