The finals of the annual “3X3 Greater Bay Area Basketball Tournament”, co-organised by the Sports Bureau (ID) and StarMac Entertainment & Production Limited, will take place in Macau from October 25-29, ID President Pun Weng Kun announced during a press conference at his bureau in Zape yesterday.
The event, sponsored by Wynn Resorts (Macau), aims at further strengthening sporting exchanges between cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and thus promoting the diversified development of Macau’s sports tourism through its “sports brand”, said Pun.
In the past two years, Pun pointed out, the event held at a local tourist spot has received a “warm response”, which “has left a deep impression on residents, visitors and participating teams”.
According to the press conference, the tournament will be held in October in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hengqin in Zhuhai and Macau, where the competitions at different stages are played by the teams with a maximum limit of 32 teams. The first three classified teams will enter the finals, which will take place in front of the Ruins of St. Paul’s.
The press conference noted that during the finals, male and female teams will compete for prizes worth more than 300,000 patacas.
The Macau leg of the competition, which will be held on October 23-24, will start accepting registrations on October 13, while the men’s 20 team and women’s 16 team places in the finals will be open for registration from October 7. Both can be signed up through the event website on www.macao3x3basketball.com.
Along with the recent listing of 3X3 basketball in the Olympic Games, it has gained more and more attention from the world, StarMac Entertainment Production President Lou Kit Long said during the press conference, adding he believed that the event will be a high-level and formal 3X3 basketball competition for basketball players in the GBA, providing them with a diversified sports exchange platform.
The GBA comprises the Hong Kong and Macau special administrative regions and the nine cities of Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan and Zhuhai in Guangdong province.
