A local man reported to the police on Saturday that 2,745 Central Processing Unit (CPU) chips worth 3.07 million yuan (3.38 million patacas) had been stolen on Friday from his warehouse in an industrial building on Rua Cinco do Bairro da Areia Preta, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the victim’s friend from Hong Kong had brought the chips to Macau and temporarily stored them in the warehouse on Thursday. The two locked the warehouse when they left early on Friday.

The victim returned to the warehouse at 8 a.m. only to find that the CPU chips had vanished, while the CCTV footage of the warehouse had been erased. The victim said he immediately reported the case to the police.

Leng noted that the police confirmed that the lock on the warehouse door was not damaged, leading to the assumption that the thief used a master key to gain entry and commit the theft. The case was still under investigation at the time of the press conference.
