The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a male mainlander last week for stealing money from a donation box at a charity organisation, PSP spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lam identified the suspect as a 52-year-old tourist surnamed Song. He told the police that he’s jobless
According to Lam, on Wednesday afternoon, the Public Security Police received a report from an employee of the charity organisation in the city centre, saying that he had witnessed Song stealing the donations from the charity box placed in the lobby and was holding him there. Police officers arrived at the scene and arrested Song.
Under questioning, Song told the police that he had mistakenly entered the charity organisation while seeking medical treatment at a nearby hospital. After he noticed the donation box, he used two pens placed nearby like a pair of chopsticks, reaching into the box and removing a 100-pataca note. He admitted to the crime and said that he was motivated by greed.
Song has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Lam.
