In the hope of inspiring more juniors to take an interest in golf and boost the development of the game in Macau, the SJM Macao Open held its school outreach event at Pui Ching Middle School last Saturday, during which local golf star Hun Pui In demonstrated his golf skills and shared his passion for the game with over 100 Grade 9-12 students at his alma mater, as well as senior representatives from the school, according to a recent statement by the golf tournament’s organisers.
“I’m hopeful that the young people here today [last Saturday] will find the same love for the game and go even further. This is a great opportunity for me to give back to the community that has given me so much,” Hun was quoted in the statement as saying.
The “Macao Open”, organised by the International Management Group (IMG) in conjunction with the Sports Bureau (ID) and title-sponsored by SJM Resorts, will take place at the Macau Golf & Country Club in Coloane on October 12-15, featuring 144 golfers. This year’s tournament will offer free admission, the statement said.
Hun, who played in the Macao Open twice in his teens, has joined the Macau contingent attending the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou and will play in this year’s Macao Open in mid-October, the statement noted.
During the one-day event, according to the statement, the students also participated in a mini-putting clinic.
The SJM Macao Open trophy was also on display as part of the event.
