Macau's 30 casinos generated gross gaming (GGR) revenue to 14.9 billion patacas (US$1.84 billion) last month, a year-on-year growth of 404.2 percent, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has announced today.
However, GGR fell by 13.2 percent month-on-month from August's 17.2 billion patacas, the highest takings of any month this year. August benefitted from the summer holiday peak.
In September last year, Macau was still severely affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its economy, tourism in particular.
In the first nine months, GGR grew by 305.3 percent to 128.9 billion patacas.
Macau's 30 casinos are owned by six rival integrated resort (IR) operators. SJM runs 13 casinos, Sands runs 5, Galaxy and Melco run 4 each, and MGM and Wynn run 2 each, according to DICJ data.
Baccara continues to be Macau's most popular game of chance. In the first half of this year (the latest available DICJ data), baccarat accounted for 84.7 percent of the gaming sector's GGR.
The six IR enterprises operate under 10-year concessions granted by the Macau government last year.
