The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific jointly hosted a delegation from the Philippines for a four-day fact-finding visit to Macau and Hong Kong, which took place between last week, according to a recent MGTO statement.
The delegation, the statement noted, comprised 10 members from the Philippine tourism and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) sectors. They visited Macau last Wednesday and Thursday, after two days in Hong Kong, to learn more about the city’s strengths as a travel and MICE destination.
The delegation’s Macau itinerary included the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau and a fact-finding tour of MICE and entertainment facilities, among others, the statement said.
MGTO also held a trade networking seminar and invited the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) to present an overview of Macau’s MICE industry to the delegation. Both local and Philippine trade members explored opportunities for cooperation.
Moreover, MGTO highlighted the convenience of “transport connectivity” between Macau and Hong Kong to “tap the potential of international visitor markets”.
The statement said that the Philippines ranked fourth among Macau’s top ten foreign visitor source markets, according to visitor arrivals between January and August, adding that the average daily arrival number of visitors from the Philippines during the period had rebounded to 61.2 percent of the corresponding figure in pre-pandemic 2019.
MGTO also continues its efforts to expand the Southeast Asian visitor markets through initiatives such as the launch of special offers on direct flight tickets in partnership with airlines, according to the statement.
