Veteran educator Lau Sin Peng said yesterday that the city had a long history of teaching locals to be patriotic, adding that the population’s patriotic education must remain an imperative for the government.
Lau, the former principal of Seong Fan School, made the remarks at the private Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Taipa, where she spoke to students about Dr Sun Yat-sen’s life in Macau and his republican ideology.
Dr Sun, also known as Sun Zhongshan or Sun Wen, is widely seen as the founder of modern China. He was born in Guangdong’s then Hsiang-shan county near Macau on November 12, 1866. The county was renamed Zhongshan in honour of Dr Sun after his death in 1925.
