The Public Security Police (PSP) announced in a statement yesterday that they recorded 15 violations by cabbies during the first six days of the mainland’s eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival-cum-National Day Golden Week holiday period, which ends tonight.
According to the statement, the 15 regulatory breaches comprised 10 cases of refusing to pick up passengers, three cases of negotiating fares with passengers, and two cases of failing to turn on their meters after picking up passengers.
In addition, the statement said, during the six-day period the police transferred eight cases of cabbies’ “impolite” behaviour vis-à-vis passengers to the Transport Bureau (DSAT) for follow-up.
The police also detected six cases of special radio taxis picking up those hailing a cab in the street during the six-day period, the statement said, adding that the six cases were also transferred to the Transport Bureau for follow-up.
Macau’s 300 special radio taxis, which are operated by Macau Radio Taxi Services Limited, are not allowed to pick up those hailing a taxi in the street.
The statement also said that the police also recorded eight cases of passenger transport services provided by unlicensed taxis during the six-day period.
According to the current law regulating the city’s taxi sector, which took effect in June 2019, offenders face significantly heavier penalties than previously.
