A statement by the Macau Deaf Association (MDA) last Saturday said that it had jointly set up a charity “shop” with the Judiciary Police (PJ) in the Judiciary Police Building between July and last month, which was well-received as the products sold like hot cakes, raising more than 14,680 patacas.
According to the statement, an official cheque handover ceremony was held last Friday at the Service Centre for the Deaf. The symbolic cheque was handed by PJ Community Policing and Public Relations Division Chief Chio Chu Wai Man to MDA Chairman Wong Kam Sun on behalf of his association.
In recent years, the MDA has developed an approach to promote the concept of deaf and hearing inclusion through charity “cultural and creative product shops”, featuring hand-made products designed by local deaf and hearing-impaired people, MDA’s statement pointed out, underlining deaf people’s capability to work “just as well as everybody else”. The statement added that through this charity activity, they hoped to strengthen the good relationship between the police and civil society in order to better serve the local community of the disabled.
