The government has launched a public tender for the design and construction of a flyover connecting the Zone A land reclamation area and the peninsula near the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal in Zape, according to an announcement published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.
The flyover is officially known as A3.
According to the announcement, potential bidders are required to submit their quotations by December 13. The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) will unseal the submitted bids the next day.
The winning bidder will be required to carry out the project’s final construction design first before starting construction. The winner will be required to complete the project (final design plus construction) within 950 working days, according to the announcement.
Currently, Zone A is only connected to the peninsula at the busy Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade), on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast, i.e., an area in the densely populated Areia Preta district.
The government plans to have a total of four vehicular links between Zone A and the peninsula, namely A1, A2, A3, and AB.
The A1 Link refers to the current vehicular connection between Zone A and the Oriental Pearl roundabout, while the A2 Link refers to a two-way flyover that will connect Zone A and an area near the Macau Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant. The A2 flyover project, which got off the ground in November last year, is scheduled to be completed in October next year.
The AB Link refers to a two-way flyover that will connect Zone A and an area near the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape. The government launched a limited tender last month for the AB flyover project.
4 spurs
According to the DSOP website, the two-way A3 flyover will have four entrances or exits at the peninsula side. All four spurs (aka ramps) will be one-way traffic only. The four spurs will consist of Spur A running from Zone A to Friendship Bridge, Spur B running from Friendship Bridge to Zone A, Spur C connecting Zone A and Avenida da Amizade, and Spur D connecting Zone A and the road network outside the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal.
The A3 flyover will have a total length of around 750 metres.
In addition, according to the website, the A3 flyover will also be connected to the future fourth Macau-Taipa Bridge that will connect the Zone A and Zone E1 land reclamation areas.
Zone A municipal wet market complex completed
Meanwhile, construction of a building earmarked for a wet market and other municipal facilities in Zone A has been completed, the bureau announced on its website yesterday.
The municipal wet market complex, which is located on Plot B6, is the first building completed in Zone A. According to the DSOP website, a total of 12 public housing projects are currently being carried out there. The first public housing projects in Zone A are now scheduled to be completed next year.
The site where the new municipal wet market is located covers about 2,700 square metres. The building has nine storeys plus a three-level underground carpark. The complex has a gross floor area of about 32,600 square metres. The carpark will provide parking spaces for about 270 cars and motorcycles.
This handout photo downloaded from the DSOP website yesterday shows the newly-completed municipal wet market building in Zone A earlier this month. Its construction, which got off the ground in May 2021, cost 393.86 million patacas.
