Two women, a Public Security Police (PSP) officer and a civil servant respectively, have been arrested for stealing valuables from their friend’s flat, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a regular press conference yesterday.

A PSP statement said yesterday that the 34-year-old PSP officer surnamed Iong joined the force in 2009 and worked at the Immigration Department. Ho said that the second suspect is surnamed Lam, aged 32.

According to Ho, the female victim reported the case to the police on Sunday, saying that Lam and Iong had stolen items such as luxury watches, cash, dried seafood, and gold jewellery valued at over 600,000 patacas from her residence. The victim told the police that the duo had entered her flat in her absence after her 5-year-old daughter unwittingly let them in. After realising her belongings had vanished, she reviewed her CCTV footage, which revealed Lam and Iong as the culprits.

The police arrested Lam and Iong on Tuesday. Under questioning, they admitted to multiple instances of entering the victim’s home and stealing valuables while she was away. However, they claimed that the total value of the stolen items was less than 20,000 patacas. The police recovered the stolen dried seafood from the suspects’ respective flats.

Lam and Iong have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) facing aggravated theft charges, according to Ho.
