The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) forecast on its website yesterday that a low-pressure area to the south of Hainan province has developed into a tropical depression moving towards the Beibu Gulf, resulting in frequent showers, strong winds, and even minor flooding in the Inner Harbour area.

The forecast said minor floods might affect the Inner Harbour area from tonight to 1 a.m. tomorrow due to astronomical tides, i.e., the tidal levels and water motion which resulting from the Earth’s rotation and gravitational effects of the Earth, Sun and Moon, without any atmospheric influences.

The forecast said as the tropical depression would maintain a distance of about 700 km from Macau, the chance of it directly affecting Macau was low.

With the strengthening of an anticyclone in the upper level, the weather will become sunnier from early to mid next week, and it will be slightly cooler in the morning and evening, Hong Kong’s meteorologists forecast yesterday.

This weather map provided by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) yesterday shows its forecast of a tropical depression in the next few days.
