The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a local man for stealing and riding a motorbike without a driving licence, as well as taking possession of a mobile phone left in the vehicle, PSP spokesman Lei Chan Hong said during a regular press conference on Friday.

The suspect, in his thirties, surnamed Lo, told the police that he works as a waiter, according to Lei.

Lei said that during a routine patrol on Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida last Monday, PSP officers found that Lo was using a mobile phone while waiting at the traffic lights, so the officers went to talk to him, adding that Lo was taken to a police station for questioning after the officers discovered that the motorbike that Lo was riding without a driving licence had been reported lost by its owner.

Under questioning, according to Lei, Lo said that late last month he saw the key in the ignition of a motorcycle, which was parked in Avenida Cidade Nova in Taipa, so he stole it, adding that he also kept the mobile phone that he had found in the vehicle.

Lei noted that the police recovered the mobile phone from the suspect’s home in the northern district.

Lo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of aggravated theft, as well as stealing and using a vehicle without the owner’s permission, according to Lei, who said that Lo has also been fined for driving without a licence.
