The one-month “2023 San Kio Bazaar Festival” kicked off yesterday, slated to end on November 27, covering over 100 booths and street stalls, guided tours, and cultural and creative workshops, among other attractions.
“San Kio” (“New Bridge”) is one of the peninsula’s old neighbourhoods.
The bazaar is taking place in an area between the Teatro Alegria cinema and Lin Kai Temple on Estrada do Repouso.
San Kio Neighbourhood Association Vice Chairman Pun Man Leong said in a speech during yesterday’s opening ceremony that he expected the event to enhance the neighbourhood’s economic vitality and thus stimulate its economic recovery and development.
According to Pun, San Kio, a “local Chinese community with a long history”, has a century-old second-hand market, featuring the pedestrianised Rua da Emenda, Sunrise Market and Lin Kai Night Market (both being long-established street markets), and the relatively new San Kio Youth Dream Market where young people occasionally sell their cultural and creative handicrafts. Pun also said he hoped that the bazaar would attract members of the public to experience “Macau’s urban and sparkling environment.”
