The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) said in a statement yesterday that it expects the construction of a one-way flyover running from the Zone A land reclamation area to the peninsula’s Avenida do Nordeste in Areia Preta district to get off the ground in the first quarter of next year.

The government launched a public tender last month for the project. Potential bidders were required to submit their quotations by Tuesday.

A total of 14 construction companies submitted their bids, which were unsealed by DSOP officials yesterday. All bids were accepted.

Yesterday’s DSOP statement announced that the quotations for the project proposed by the 14 bidders range from 208 million patacas to 243 million patacas.

The bureau had set a maximum period of 550 working days for the winning bidder to complete the project.

Yesterday’s statement announced that the construction periods proposed by the 14 bidders are identical, 495 working days.

The new project, the submitted bids for which were unsealed yesterday, will be the second phase of the government’s “three-dimensional” traffic system at the busy Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade) on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast.

The first phase is a one-way flyover running from Avenida do Nordeste to Zone A by crossing over Rotunda da Amizade. This flyover came into use in November last year.

After entering the first-phase flyover from Avenida do Nordeste, drivers can choose “Spur A” that leads to Zone A or “Spur C” that leads to Avenida da Ponte da Amizade – the avenue leading to the Macau-Taipa Friendship Bridge.

The second-phase flyover, known as Spur B, will be 750 metres long.

Spur A and Spur C together have a total length of 830 metres.

Yesterday’s statement also noted that the new flyover will have a pavement at one side for pedestrians to walk between the two areas.

The first-phase flyover currently in use is only for vehicles.
