The 54th Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar will take place this Saturday and Sunday at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, its Secretary General Paul Pun Chi Meng said yesterday during a press conference announcing the details of the annual event.
This year, the bazaar will have 73 booths for games and 14 food booths, with the attendance of more than 90 organisations and associations, including government departments, schools, enterprises, student associations, as well as a number of donation counters, to raise money for a wide range of causes such as helping cover the initial cost of developing new social services and optimising existing unfunded programmes, as well as other services that Caritas Macau provides to the public, according to Pun.
There will be a variety of stage performances, including by the Public Security Police (PSP) Band, local singers and bands, schools, societies, Caritas service users. Ou Mun Tin Toi (the Chinese-language station of public broadcaster TDM) will broadcast the event live.
The charity raffle tickets will be on sale until Sunday for 10 patacas each, Pun noted, adding that more than 160,000 raffle tickets have been sold so far.
Pun said that Caritas is planning to set up a social enterprise to provide the elderly and their families with services ranging from in-home companionship to personal care support, so as to alleviate the concerns of family members who do not have the time or ability to take care of them.
In addition, Pun said that Caritas will continue its Christmas warmup campaign with the addition of a charity sale booth, aiming to purchase Christmas gifts for 800 children from low-income families in Macau and distribute gift packages to more than 600 low-income families and families with children with special needs.
The 54th Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar will be open from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
