Nearly 10,000 traffic accidents result in 7 deaths in Jan-Sept

Macau recorded 9,914 traffic accidents in the first nine months of this year, resulting in seven deaths and 3,463 injuries, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday. 

On average, the police reported 36.3 traffic accidents per day between January and September. 

In September, the number of traffic accidents rose by 18.1 percent year-on-year to 1,166, with two persons killed and 416 injured. 

The number of licensed motor vehicles stood at 250,246 at the end of September, up by 0.8 percent year-on-year, including 115,046 light automobiles and 108,943 heavy motorcycles. 

New registration of motor vehicles in September decreased by 20.8 percent year-on-year to 941, including 239 electric vehicles, or one-quarter. 

In the first nine months, new registrations of motor vehicles grew by 19.7 percent year-on-year to 8,885.
